Horse Racing in Scotland

Scotland might only have five racecourses, but what they lack in number, they more than make up for in character.

Ayr is the grand old champion of the bunch—home of the Scottish Grand National and host to high drama and high fashion. It’s big and bold and knows how to put on a show.

Musselburgh, a gallop from Edinburgh, blends historic charm with modern flair. You’ll find tweed jackets and tech-savvy punters side by side—it’s where tradition meets touchscreen.

In the Highlands, Perth serves up summer jump racing with royal parkland views. It’s laid-back, scenic, and has a local buzz—plus, you might spot a kilt or two trackside.

Kelso, in the Borders, is the purist’s favourite. It’s old-school, intimate, and downright beautiful—where the jumps are stiff, and the crowd knows their horses from their hooves.

And then there’s Hamilton Park, the party track. Think live music, glamorous race nights, and flat racing with flair. If you like your turf with a side of sparkle, this is the one.

  • Scottish Racing Academy – committed to addressing the gap in horse racing education and training provision available in Scotland and the north.
